Underwear To Make Your Summer Dress Look Perfect

Whether it’s going to a wedding, the races or a party, the chances are you will be wearing a special dress this summer. But no matter how much time or effort you put into finding your dress, it will never look its best unless you are wearing the correct underwear. So here’s my top tips:

Choose Nude – despite what some think white underwear can be seen underneath white / pale colours. So though it might not be the most exciting IMG_0942.JPG (3)colour, a nude bra really is best. To get your monies worth why not go for a multiway bra like this from Debenhams priced £16 (currently £12.80 in the sale) in sizes 30B to 38DD. If you have not had a bra fit in the last 6 months – get one to ensure you buy the right size.

If you want to achieve smooth lines underneath your dress, and disguise a tummy or thighs – Debenhams’ Natural invisible body shaping slip dress is perfect. Priced £34 (currently £27.20 in the sale) in sizes 8 – 20 it is seamless, invisible underneath your clothes, and allows you to wear your own bra. Many of my clients are often a different size top and bottom so an all-in-one doesn’t always fit, so this is the perfect answer. The slip dress is also available in black.

Remember you get what you pay for with shape underwear. If you only need light support stores including Primark sell shapewear which will be fine for you. But if you want really good support then pay that bit extra and visit Debenhams or Marks & Spencer with its Secret Slimming Shapewear. Marks & Spencer also has underwear which boasts its Cool Comfort technology. Perfect for the heatwave we are currently experiencing. Shapewear should be a snug fit but not cut off your circulation! As a general rule go for the same size as you would a dress.

What about your legs? Well if fake tan is not your thing copy Kate Middleton and go for nude tights, which give her legs a great finish. It’s thought she IMG_0943wears John Lewis’ Barely There non-slip tights at £5 a pair. They have a sandal toe and a non-slip pad under the foot to stop you slipping in your shoes. Pretty Polly sells 8 denier sandal toe tights which have a sheer toe – no seam. There are several skin tone colours available.

But what if you plan to wear an open toe shoe and want your toes bare, but still want to wear tights? Well the answer is you need an open toe tight (as below).

Lots of stores now sell them including Marks & Spencer, which has a bare cooling ladder resist open toe tight for £5 as part of its Autograph range. Primark does a version for just £2.50.   I love wearing mine!
